A Call to Action to Protect Colorado Residents!
A Felon & Drag Queen is Trying to Pass a Law in Colorado to Make it Legal for Felons to Change Their Name
HB24-1071 I am going to testify against it! Join me in my dissent!
Hello,
My name is Christina Goeke. I am a resident of Colorado Springs and co-founder of Rocky Mountain Women’s Network. I am here to voice my opposition to HB24-1071, also known as Tiara’s Law. This law is actually being named after the chosen name of a convicted felon, an admitted former prostitute. Mr. Duane Powell took the name Tiara LaTrice in order to attempt to appropriate a female name and to impersonate women while hiding his former crimes. Mr. Powell, or Tiara, now performs a misogynistic portrayal of women known as drag and teaches young boys to do the same. Mr. Powell, a former prostitute, now works with children teaching them to perform a hyper sexualized stereotype of women while other grown adults throw dollar bills at the children. It is a burlesque show with children. This is child abuse. We adults are supposed to protect children’s innocence but that is not happening. Instead, adults are now grooming children to be what amounts to strippers and sex workers. Make it make sense.
Mr. Powell uses his female persona and name change to hide his felonious past from parents.
Allowing felons to legally change their name is dangerous to the public. The public does not have access to people’s social security numbers. The best we can do when sizing up a potential friend, love interest, babysitter, etc is a google search or use a website like “Truth Finder”. If we don’t even have the correct name of the person we are looking into, how would we know if they were a sex offender, pedophile, murderer, etc? The proponents of this bill will say that “the crimes stay with the social security number of the felon”. OK? How does that help the general public? This bill would make it easier for predators to target single moms, young women, and children. There is absolutely no reason why we should be helping felons make it easier to hide their crimes! Does Colorado really value the feelings of convicted felons MORE than that of women and children who will most certainly be put in more danger by this bill? Please vote NO on HB1071.
